Meta's New Commercial Terms From October 30: Who Is Responsible for AI Ad Edits?

Meta's revised terms reportedly make advertisers responsible for what its AI features change in ads. Here is what to review in your account this week.

Quick answerAccording to reporting on Meta's revised Commercial Terms, effective October 30, 2026, advertisers would be solely responsible for changes Meta's AI features make to their ads, including features Meta turns on by default. Review which Advantage+ creative enhancements are active in each campaign, switch off what you do not want, and check live ads for edits you did not request.

What is being reported

Industry press, citing Adweek's reporting from October 22, 2026, says Meta's revised Commercial Terms will include a new AI Features section from October 30. Meta's wording, as reported, says its AI features may make mistakes. The reported effect is that the advertiser carries the risk for what those features create or change, and the earlier wording that tied this to features an advertiser chose to use has been read as removed.

Important caveatThe full AI Features section had not been widely published when this was written, and we are relying on press coverage. This is not legal advice. Read Meta's terms yourself and speak to a lawyer if the risk is significant for your business.

Which features are involved

FeatureWhat reports say it can do
Advantage+ creative enhancementsAdjust backgrounds, brightness, contrast and format, and can generate many variations. Reported as on by default since October 2025.
Automated ad editsAdvertisers have reported unrequested sitelinks, translated copy and AI-generated images or carousels built from brand photos.
Dynamic MediaReported as on by default for new catalog ads created through the Marketing API.
Product browsingA separate default change starting October 28. See our product browsing guide.

Why this matters for a brand

  • Claims and compliance. If an AI edit changes your wording or an image so that it breaks Meta's own policy, your ad can be rejected or your account flagged. See what to do if your account is restricted.
  • Brand and accuracy. A background, colour or caption you did not approve can misrepresent a product.
  • Regulated categories. Health, supplements and beauty advertisers have the most to lose. See our guides on supplement ads and beauty ads.

What to do this week

01
List your campaigns. Note every campaign and ad that uses Advantage+ features.
02
Check each setting. Open the Advantage+ creative and destination options for each ad and switch off enhancements you do not want. Look in collapsed menus.
03
Review live ads. Preview your running ads and look for edits you did not request, such as extra sitelinks, translated text or altered images.
04
Keep a record. Save screenshots of your approved creative and the date, so you can compare later.
05
Decide on a default. Many brands choose to keep enhancements off in sensitive categories and test them on a few ads elsewhere.
06
Check your contracts. If an agency manages your ads, agree who reviews AI settings and how.

How we approach it

We treat automation as a tool to test, not a default to accept. Before launching a campaign, we check the creative and destination settings, run a small test with enhancements on and off, and compare results on delivered revenue. If you want to understand the automated campaign types, read Advantage+ sales campaigns explained. Want a team to handle this for you? See our Meta Ads agency service in Surat.
