How to Get More Google Reviews Ethically in India

A simple, rule-following way to ask customers for Google reviews: when to ask, what to say, what is not allowed and two message templates you can use.

Quick answerTo get Google reviews ethically, ask every customer, not only happy ones, soon after a good experience, send them your direct review link, and reply to every review. Do not offer discounts or gifts for reviews, do not filter who you ask and do not buy or write fake reviews, because these break Google's policies and customers' trust.

Why reviews matter

Reviews help customers trust you and help your business stand out in Google results and Maps. For a young brand or agency, a handful of real reviews can change how serious you look. But how you get them matters, because breaking Google's rules can get reviews removed or a profile restricted.

Check Google's own policyThe rules below come from secondary summaries of Google's review policy, including an April 2026 update. Read Google's official Business Profile review policy before you build a process.

What is and is not allowed

AllowedNot allowed
Asking all customers for an honest reviewAsking only customers you expect to be happy (review gating)
Sharing a direct review link or QR codeOffering discounts, gifts or payments for reviews
Replying to every reviewBuying, writing or trading fake reviews
Reminding customers once or twice, politelyReview quotas or pressure on staff or customers
Letting customers write in their own wordsTelling customers what to write or whom to name

How to ask, step by step

01
Pick the right moment. Right after a successful delivery, a good result or a thank-you message.
02
Ask everyone. Use the same process for all customers, not a filtered list.
03
Make it easy. Send your direct Google review link by WhatsApp or email. Find it in your Business Profile under the option to get more reviews.
04
Keep it short and personal. One clear ask.
05
Follow up once. A single gentle reminder is enough.
06
Say thank you and reply. Reply to every review, positive or negative.

Two message templates

WhatsApp templateHi [Name], thank you for choosing [Business]. We would really value your honest feedback. If you have a minute, you can share your experience here: [review link]. Thank you!
Email templateSubject: How did we do? Hi [Name], thank you for working with us. Your honest feedback helps other businesses decide, and helps us improve. You can leave a short Google review here: [review link]. We read every one. Thank you, [Your name].

Handling negative reviews

  • Reply calmly and thank them for the feedback.
  • Do not argue or share private details.
  • Offer to resolve the issue offline.
  • If a review breaks Google's policy, you can report it.

Showing reviews on your website

You can show customer reviews on your site. Be careful with review structured data. Google says reviews of your own business that you control are not eligible for rich results in many cases, so we do not mark up self-collected ratings on our own site. If you use review markup, check Google's current rules first.
